Online therapy in Iowa
In Iowa, 128,000 adults have a serious mental illness.
More than 90% of Charlie Health clients reported improvements in their most severe mental health symptoms.
What is IOP?
Intensive outpatient programming (IOP) is a level of behavioral healthcare that is typically more structured and intensive than traditional weekly therapy.
The goal of IOP is to provide individuals with the support and treatment they need to manage their mental health issues and achieve lasting recovery, while still allowing them to maintain their daily routines and responsibilities.
Curated groups
By bringing people with similar mental health challenges together, we’re able to create group environments where clients can learn how to build connections and foster long-term healing.
Individual therapy
One-on-one connections are critical to the IOP model, which is why each client’s unique treatment plan includes a primary therapist for weekly individual sessions.
Family therapy
The #1 predictor of success in IOP is family involvement. Our virtual intensive outpatient program’s family therapy component teaches communication and coping skills to create a more supportive home environment both during and after treatment.
Who is IOP for?
People with ongoing mental health issues or in a mental health crisis
IOP is designed for individuals who need more treatment and support than can be provided through once-weekly therapy, but who do not require the level of care provided through residential or inpatient treatment.

What our clients say
“I no longer feel that deep sense of emptiness and hopelessness.”
I didn't want to die, but I didn't know how to keep living anymore and I couldn't see a way out. How can I possibly describe what it means to no longer be stuck there? I no longer feel that deep sense of emptiness and hopelessness that that I have carried for 20 years? I wish I could sum up this experience in a small blurb, but some things can only be felt. Trust the process. Clichés exist for a reason.

“Charlie Health gave me a different perspective on my mental health.”
I learned about Charlie Health after going to the emergency room when I was feeling suicidal. The social worker there told me about the program, and it sounded like the best option because I figured something intensive would be good for me. My individual therapist at Charlie Health gave me a different perspective on my mental health and pointed out some coping skills that I already had. I also really liked the group aspect. Having other people around was very helpful. I learned a lot from their contributions.

“I began Charlie Health unemployed with no clear future, and now I’m a graduate student with a job.”
I came into Charlie Health absolutely depressed and anxious, with no signs of hope. Slowly, I gained the tools to defend myself more often, make new friends, and take healthy steps toward bettering my life. I went from getting physically ill from all of my stressors to handling my stressors head-on. I finally have some semblance of hope. I began Charlie Health unemployed with no clear future, and now I’m a graduate student with a job. I’m grateful for all of my group facilitators who gave me the tools for success, and incredibly thankful for Ryan, my therapist, for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself.
