What is IOP?

Intensive outpatient programming (IOP) is a level of behavioral healthcare that is typically more structured and intensive than traditional weekly therapy.

The goal of IOP is to provide individuals with the support and treatment they need to manage their mental health issues and achieve lasting recovery, while still allowing them to maintain their daily routines and responsibilities.

Curated groups

By bringing people with similar mental health challenges together, we’re able to create group environments where clients can learn how to build connections and foster long-term healing.

Individual therapy

One-on-one connections are critical to the IOP model, which is why each client’s unique treatment plan includes a primary therapist for weekly individual sessions.

Family therapy

The #1 predictor of success in IOP is family involvement. Our virtual intensive outpatient program’s family therapy component teaches communication and coping skills to create a more supportive home environment both during and after treatment.

Who is IOP for?

People with ongoing mental health issues or in a mental health crisis

IOP is designed for individuals who need more treatment and support than can be provided through once-weekly therapy, but who do not require the level of care provided through residential or inpatient treatment.

In their words

What our clients say

“They had a program at a cost I could afford, was flexible enough to fit my wacky schedule, and provided the level of care that I needed.”

Charlie Health was there for me when I needed it. I was struggling really badly with my mental health and couldn't find a program that fit my busy schedule as a working professional. A provider recommended Charlie Health to me, and they had a program at a cost I could afford, was flexible enough to fit my wacky schedule, and provided the level of care that I needed. I am very grateful for Charlie Health!

“My mom said, 'We have our Maddy back'.”

Charlie Health was very helpful for me. I was able to come off a lot of my medications that were causing my mental health crisis. My mood improved so drastically that my mom said, "We have our Maddy back." I learned so many self-care skills that I didn't even know before. My mom even learned a lot more about how I communicate and what I need. I have been able to communicate better with my medical team because Charlie Health has helped me be more open with them. I have been able to advocate for my needs better. For example, the care provider for my braces knows that I am more comfortable seeing him in my home and when I need to go into his office he schedules it at the end of the day so I do not get over stimulated. He allows enough time for my care in my home or in the office.

“This is the first time that therapy has actually felt productive.”

My issues weren't the popular issues I saw in groups. While others were here for depression and anxiety (and I'm glad they were here), I was in for psychosis and severe dissociation. Despite my different issues, we were all getting the care and help they needed. Everyone here wants to accept the help they can get with this opportunity, and everyone (staff and clients alike) has been incredibly kind and welcoming. The community is very inclusive, and it was nice not to have to water down my thoughts for the sake of others. Even when my problems were different, there was always some way we could relate to and help each other. That's the human experience. :) As for my one-on-one sessions, this is the first time that therapy has actually felt productive. It felt a bit more self-led, and my therapist was very good at getting me to reflect on where certain thoughts and beliefs may stem from. I came in overly self-aware, and now I know the ways that I can use that awareness to lead to change. I also have issues with being held accountable (opposition to authority), and my therapist was very good at guiding me to hold myself accountable rather than "shoving" the accountability in my face. She's been wonderful, and I finally feel like I've made progress and am capable of making more.
