Charlie Health Expands Virtual High-Acuity Behavioral Health Services to Support Individuals Ages 8–64

New age expansion addresses national demand for accessible, intensive care for children, teens and adults

August 21, 2025

BOZEMAN, Mont., August 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Charlie Health, the nation’s leading provider of virtual high-acuity behavioral healthcare, today announced it is expanding its services to individuals ages 8 to 64, making its evidence-based care model accessible to more people than ever before. With this change, Charlie Health is directly addressing critical care gaps for both younger children and midlife adults nationwide, reinforcing its position as the only provider offering this level of care to such a broad range of individuals at scale.

Access to high-acuity behavioral healthcare, especially for younger children and midlife adults, is more critical than ever. Rates of suicide among preteens (ages 8-12) have been rising approximately 8% annually since 2008, yet appropriate and affordable services for this age group remain scarce. Likewise, suicide remains a top 10 cause of death for adults ages 45-64, yet intensive care options for this population are often fragmented or unavailable. Charlie Health hears every day from families and providers that these gaps leave them without viable options when urgent intervention is needed.

Originally focused on teen and young adult mental healthcare, Charlie Health has steadily broadened its scope to meet urgent needs across more conditions and populations. Earlier this year, the company introduced specialized programming for clients with primary substance use disorders, expanding its ability to treat a wider range of conditions. Today’s announcement extends that same commitment to access by making Charlie Health’s treatment programs available to a broader spectrum of ages. Together, these efforts reflect an ongoing evolution to deliver clinically rigorous, personalized behavioral healthcare to more people, in more stages of life, than ever before.

“From the beginning, our focus has been on delivering exceptional care to the people who need it most,” said Carter Barnhart, CEO and Co-Founder of Charlie Health. “We’ve consistently heard from families, providers, and other community members about the need for treatment options for individuals beyond teens and young adults. Broadening our age range reflects our commitment to making high-acuity behavioral healthcare accessible to a wider population, ensuring more people can benefit from our proven, personalized care model at every stage of life.”

Outcomes from Charlie Health’s youngest and oldest clients who have completed treatment to date demonstrate the effectiveness of its programs across its existing age spectrum:

  • Among clients ages 13 and younger, measures of depression (PHQ-9) and anxiety (GAD-7) decreased by 63% and 66%, respectively, from intake to discharge. Clients in this age group also reported a 56% decrease in the number of school days they missed and a 48% improvement in their ability to concentrate on activities like schoolwork at the time of discharge.
  • Among clients ages 46 and older, measures of depression (PHQ-9) and anxiety (GAD-7) decreased by 58% and 59%, respectively, from intake to discharge. Clients in this age group also reported a 45% decrease in the number of workdays they missed and a 28% improvement in their ability to manage family issues at the time of discharge.

These results underscore Charlie Health’s ability to deliver meaningful improvement at both the early and later stages of life, providing a strong foundation for expanding services to a broader range of ages.

With this expansion, Charlie Health is setting a new benchmark for access to high-acuity behavioral healthcare. The company will continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of individuals and families nationwide, driving innovation in access, personalization, and outcomes.
