Group Sessions

The cornerstone of your care

Group sessions are at the core of our virtual IOP. Three times a week online, you'll join a small, curated group of peers matched by age and experience — with licensed facilitators guiding each session.

A typical week in our care

Group sessions anchor your week — with individual therapy, family therapy, and psychiatric care built around them. Groups are designed to create consistency and connection, giving you regular opportunities to learn alongside peers, build trust, and support one another throughout treatment.

What are group sessions in an IOP?

Group sessions are guided conversations where a small group of peers work through similar behavioral health challenges together. In an intensive outpatient program (IOP), they’re a central part of weekly care.

Unlike talking one-on-one with a therapist, group sessions let you learn from other people who are struggling alongside you. Hearing how others cope offers a kind of support that only comes from lived experience. By the same token, you’ll be able to help other people, too. This give-and-take is part of why group work is a well-established part of behavioral health treatment.

How it works

How group sessions work in our IOP

At Charlie Health, you're matched into groups with others who share similar experiences, which can make it easier to open up. Every group follows a familiar rhythm, though the specifics vary from session to session:

What happens in group sessions?

One of the most common worries before a first session is “What am I even supposed to talk about?” The honest answer is anything on your mind. There’s no wrong thing to bring and every group dynamic is different.

You're not alone

Hearing someone say “me too” can land harder than months of advice from someone who hasn't lived it.

Support that goes both ways

Helping someone else through a hard moment is its own kind of healing.

Skills for life

You practice new tools with real people, not just in theory.

A place to belong

Isolation makes everything harder. Group connects you with people who understand, every week.

Group sessions & individual therapy

At Charlie Health, treatment always includes both group sessions and individual therapy. Group sessions show you you're not alone in this while individual therapy makes the work specifically yours. Together, they make one coordinated plan.
